Naked, Semi-naked, Buttercream or Fondant ?
Which wedding cake style to choose

Wedding cake design is full of terminology that you understandably may not have come across until you come to order your cake.

Here is a quick summary of cake styles to help you choose the right one for you:

Naked cakes
As it says - it’s naked. Bare. Completely starkers. It’s filled with buttercream (and jam if the cake flavour suits), decorated with fresh berries and / or natural flowers and that’s it. Budget friendly - this is the starting point for my wedding cake prices. Once a cake thought to be for the rustic barn wedding venue this style is very much at home in all venue settings.
Semi-naked Cakes
This cake is basically scantily clad. You can see the sponge coming through a little, but the thin coating of white buttercream gives this style of cake a rustic yet delicate look. The semi naked cake is very popular with my couples as they look beautiful and they’re affordable for all cake budgets.

Lambeth Wedding Cakes
The biggest wedding cake trend for 2024 & 2025 is the Lambeth wedding cake. Without a doubt it is a show stopping intricately decorated buttercream iced cake with multiple piping styles. The Lambeth method (named after Joseph Lambeth who popularized this ornate style of cake in the 1930s) is one of the most skilled techniques in cake decorating and one of the most admired. A Lambeth wedding cake will make a stunning focal point at your wedding breakfast in all styles of wedding venue.
Fondant Iced Cakes
This is THE wedding cake. Thought of as traditional when you think of a wedding cake - but the styles and possibilities are forever changing so this style of cake is far from traditional - think luxurious and contemporary. These cakes will make a big statement at your venue and give us the most varied scope to create a bespoke design to perfectly compliment your wedding style and colour palette. My fondant iced cake tiers are coated with a white chocolate ganache (dark chocolate for chocolate cakes) and iced with a thin layer of fondant icing to give a flawless finish, sharp edges and a great foundation for piping detail, handmade sugar flowers, and lots of beautiful effects such as lustre and edible glitter to make your cake totally unique for you. The design possibilities are endless with these wedding cakes.
