Wedding cake design is full of terminology that you understandably may not have come across until you come to order your cake.
Here is a guide to cake styles to help you choose the right one for you:
Naked cakes
As it says - it’s naked. Bare. Completely starkers. It’s filled with buttercream (and jam if the cake flavour suits), decorated with fresh berries and / or natural flowers and that’s it. Budget friendly - this is the starting point for my wedding cake prices. Once a cake thought to be for the rustic barn wedding venue this style is very much at home in all venue settings. These cakes are usually dressed with fresh seasonal berries, natural flowers and foliage that match the wedding day flowers - or both. These cakes also work well with organic edible flowers.
Semi-naked Cakes
This cake is basically scantily clad. You can see the sponge coming through a little, but the thin coating of white buttercream gives this style of cake a rustic yet delicate look. The semi naked cake is very popular with my couples as they look beautiful and they’re affordable for all cake budgets. These cakes are best decorated with natural flowers and foliage rather than sugar flowers as natural flowers will sit more naturally against the buttercream icing. These cakes also look fantastic when dressed with organic edible flowers.

Buttercream Iced Cakes
This has lashings of fluffy yummy buttercream and is a fully iced cake, you won’t see any sponge underneath. There are a number of different styles and effects for the icing. You can have a rustic finish, contemporary smooth finish, or striped patterns for extra detail.

Fondant Iced Cakes
This is THE wedding cake. Thought of as traditional when you think of a wedding cake - but the styles and possibilities are forever changing so this style of cake is far from traditional - think luxurious and contemporary. These cakes will make a big statement at your venue and give us the most varied scope to create a bespoke design to perfectly compliment your wedding style and colour palette. My fondant iced cake tiers are coated with a white chocolate ganache (dark chocolate for chocolate cakes) and iced with a thin layer of fondant icing to give a flawless finish, sharp edges and a great foundation for piping detail, handmade sugar flowers, and lots of beautiful effects such as lustre and edible glitter to make your cake totally unique for you. The design possibilities are endless with these wedding cakes from elegant tiers decorated with flowers to novelty cakes depicting the couples hobbies and interests.

Wedding Cake Tables
If you would like to offer a variety of choice to your wedding guests with your cake then a cake table is the perfect solution. A wedding cake table will usually display a main wedding cake and have the addition of smaller cakes and treats such as cupcakes, macarons, cookies, cake pops, cakesicles, brownies or flapjacks beautifully displayed for your guests to choose from. A great idea too if you have a number of children on your guest list.
